Big Bend Spurs and Whitetails of Kentucky
Big Bend Spur's and Whitetails is located in central Kentucky along the Ohio River in Meade County. Our customers specifically hunt in the part of the county called the Big Bend; the name was derived from the location, where the Ohio River make's the largest bend in the river between Pittsburg and the Mississippi River.
Kentucky is often called the sleeper state for Big Whitetail Bucks. Kentucky is among the top three states each year for Pope and Young and Boone and Crocket entries. All of Kentucky's non-resident licenses can be purchased online or over the counter. This eliminates states that have a draw system for non-residents only.
All hunting areas are managed with the Quality Deer Management Program. We ask every hunter to take only Buck's with racks outside their ears. This ensures the hunter of taking at least a three-year old Buck. When you harvest that Big Buck we also ask that you take a Doe also. By taking a Doe with your Buck, you keep our Buck - Doe ratio to a 3 to 1, keeping our quality deer herds at the optimum rate. This in turn gives you the Quality Whitetail Deer that you’re hunting for.
Our Hunting Grounds
Big Bend Spur's and Whitetails owns 3,600 acres of land, ground-owned and ground-leased. Our land is full of crop fields and other features that attract wild game. Such features include corn, soybeans, alfalfa, clover fields (food plots range from 1 - 4 acres), and big mature white oak ridges.
Big Bend Spur's and Whitetails biggest tract is 2,600 acres. This area was managed by the Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife as a management area for 20 years. During that time they had a two-day quota for Gun Hunting only, while the remainder of the time was for Bow Hunting only.
Early Season Bow Hunts will be over trails, mineral licks, and other food sources. Two climbing stands are recommended - one for morning hunting and the other for evening hunting.
Gun Hunts will be in ladder stands, shooting houses, pop up blinds, crop fields, food plots and the white oak ridges.
